Helping Victims of Hurricane Laura
Hurricane Laura has wrought devastation in Louisiana and in East Texas, where tens of thousands of our members worship in hundreds of our UPCI churches. We are a body that cares deeply about one another, and we ask for your help.
The UPCI ministers in domestic disaster relief primarily through Reach Out America (ROA), one of our endorsed organizations. ROA has a 25-year track record of disaster and humanitarian relief and serves on National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster. In cooperation with FEMA and various federal, state, and local agencies, ROA coordinates the distribution of supplies and volunteer efforts. Through collaboration with other groups, minimal donations to ROA can result in significant benefits. The first truck of supplies (value: $150,000) is already on its way to the first point of distribution, one of our UPCI churches. The more that is channeled through ROA, the more we see cooperation with other member organizations. The state, county, or parish also receives credit for our efforts for their various programs.
The UPCI also donates directly to damaged local churches through their respective districts. We ask ROA to work with the districts to track volunteer labor and materials donated in those projects. We do this not only to be good stewards but to demonstrate that the UPCI is involved in a significant way in helping damaged communities.
Can you give today? By giving to the UPCI Disaster Relief Fund you are ministering to the needs of Louisiana and Texas. These funds will go to damaged churches through their respective districts. A small portion will be channeled through ROA's relief efforts with local districts and UPCI churches to minister to suffering people. Please click here to give.
Also consider volunteering for one of the projects at reachoutamerica.org.
Sincerely in Christ,
David K. Bernard
